Border Patrol Agents Consider Quitting If Harris Wins Presidency: A Crisis of Confidence?
As the next U.S. presidential election approaches, tensions are rising among federal agencies, particularly within the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP). According to recent reports, many USBP agents are signaling their intention to leave the force if Kamala Harris secures a win. These agents, who serve as the front line of U.S. immigration enforcement, have expressed frustration over policies enacted under the Biden-Harris administration, which they believe have made their jobs more difficult and less effective.
What Border Agents Are Saying
One agent told the New York Post, “I’m not going through this crap again… four years of hell,” referencing the challenges they felt during the Biden-Harris term. Another echoed the sentiment, stating, “This administration has done everything it can to make our job as ineffective as possible… when you see criminals come in and walk free, it sucks.”
These remarks reflect a broader dissatisfaction with the administration’s immigration policies, which critics argue have been too lenient. Many agents believe that the current approach undermines their mission, leaving them frustrated and considering early retirement.
Turnover and Morale Issues
The U.S. Border Patrol has been grappling with high turnover rates, with insiders pointing to a lack of support from leadership as a key factor. Even though the agency has offered increased financial bonuses to retain staff, these incentives have done little to stem the tide of departures.
The Impact of a Harris Victory
If Harris does win the election, many fear that the agency could face an exodus of experienced officers. As one agent pointed out, “A lot of guys who can retire will retire. If Trump wins, they’ll stay.” This suggests a strong alignment between the USBP and former President Donald Trump’s stricter immigration policies, which many agents believe better support their mission.
