As Media Reckons With AI Giants, Another Major Publisher Takes the Money

Axel Springer became the latest media company to partner with AI, as news organizations grapple with how best to use the technology while protecting jobs and their financial position.

The German media company announced a partnership Wednesday with OpenAIโ€˜s ChaptGPT, in which ChatGPT will pull from content from Axel Springerโ€™s brands, including Politico, Business Insider, Bild and Welt, to answer queries. The answers to user questions will include attribution and links to full articles.

โ€œWe are excited to have shaped this global partnership between Axel Springer and OpenAI โ€“ the first of its kind. We want to explore the opportunities of AI empowered journalism โ€“ to bring quality, societal relevance and the business model of journalism to the next level,โ€ said Mathias Dรถpfner, CEO of Axel Springer.
