Recreational cannabis use and its association with arterial stiffness: the EVA-adic study. Download PDF Abstract The cardiovascular effects of recreational cannabis use on arterial stiffness in young adults remain poorly understood. This study aimed to examine the association between cannabis use and arterial stiffness parameters in a young adult population.

A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was conducted. Using non-probabilistic consecutive sampling, 501 participants (222 men and 279 women) aged 18 to 34 years were recruited from an urban setting. Cannabis use was assessed using the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST V3.0).

Arterial stiffness was evaluated via pulse pressure (PP), carotid–femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV), brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity (ba-PWV), cardio–ankle vascular index (CAVI), and heart rate–corrected central augmentation index (CAIx75).
