A rugged Android phone with a camera you can pop off and use on its own. Yep, someone actually built one. This Android smartphone has a detachable GoPro-like camera, and we tried it!

Ulefone sub-brand, RugOne, has packed a GoPro-like action camera into the Xsnap 7 Pro, and the best part is, you can literally pop it right out of the phone. Where the action is Adamya Sharma / The detachable camera uses a magnetic connection to attach to the back of the Xsnap 7 Pro, with an additional physical safety lock to ensure it doesn’t accidentally fall out. That’s useful for a phone designed for outdoor enthusiasts, but it also makes removing the camera a little fiddly.

Getting enough uses to release the camera was almost impossible for me.

Yeah, it made me go "ooh" when I heard about it. (Unfortunately, my sample landed while we report on IFA 2026 here in Berlin.

I’ll update this story when I get to see the device in person later this week. The almost cube-shaped camera weighs 39 grams and can record video up to 2.7K resolution at 30fps — it’s not coming for the latest GoPro quite yet.

It connects to the smartphone wirelessly through a companion app. The camera attaches magnetically to the phone when not in use and is also waterproof up to a depth of 5 metres.

RugOne says the module can run for up to 40 minutes on a full charge, with 64GB of built-in storage. It’ll broadcast a preview feed to RugOne’s companion app, up to 50 meters away.
