In a move that should be welcomed by parents and guardians of young children, Spotify announced a new feature that lets you keep kids’ and family music played on the service out of your taste profile. Starting today, Spotify is rolling out a new toggle in the app’s settings that prevents kids’ music from affecting your personalized recommendations.

The streaming service is adding a new toggle option for users to exclude certain kids or family songs from affecting your music recommendations, like nursery rhymes, TV show theme songs or musical hits from animated movies.

This includes, for example, songs you play on repeat from your kids’ favorite animated movies, theme songs from family TV shows, nursery rhymes, and more. When you turn the new setting off, you can still search for, listen to, and build playlists of kids and family music, but those streams won’t affect what Spotify suggests for you.

Within the settings panel, there’s now a new toggle labeled "Include kids and family music in taste profile" that will change what shows up in your Discovery Weekly, Daily Mix or Wrapped. Like the Explicit content switch, Spotify has a note that says it could "take up to 48 hours for these changes to be reflected in your personalized recommendations." However, activating the kid and family music toggle will also work retroactively, meaning that all the relevant music you listened to this year can still be wiped away from your annual Wrapped recap.

In other words, things like Discover Weekly, Daily Mix, and Wrapped will more accurately reflect your taste. Not only that, the setting applies retroactively, so kids music you’ve already listened to won’t count toward your Wrapped top song or artist, for example.

The feature is available to both Free and Premium users. The latest toggle option builds on Spotify’s Managed accounts feature that was introduced in 2025 to give kid accounts that are part of a shared family plan a space to listen to their own music and prevent it from affecting other accounts’ taste profiles.

The following steps show you how to turn it off in the Spotify app on iOS and Android: Navigate to Settings and privacy by tapping your profile picture in the top-left corner. Select Content and display.

Before introducing managed accounts, Spotify added the ability to exclude playlists from user’s taste profiles, and later added a feature that can hide individual tracks in 2025.

Switch off the toggle next to Include kids and family music in taste profile. Spotify says it may take up to 48 hours for these changes to be reflected in your personalized recommendations.
