With the iOS 27.2 beta, Apple is testing the new Health app that it previewed at its September iPhone event. The app has been entirely overhauled, with new Insights and Longevity tabs that give you more information on your health and fitness metrics. The Insights tab shows your most recent health data, such as Activity Rings, heart rate, sleep score, and vitals.
It’ll eventually show personalized guidance, but that feature hasn’t been added yet. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 owners will see a readiness score calculated from recent activity, vitals, and sleep score to help them decide whether to take a recovery day or push harder. The Longevity tab looks at your health data over time to calculate your Health Age based on activity level, VO2 max, sleep time, and other metrics.
It also uses fitness assessments you can do right on your iPhone to check flexibility, balance, and VO2 max. Apple plans to offer a $119 laboratory panel from Quest Diagnostics, which will also contribute to the Health Age score. For now, you can upload your recent lab results.
New features like Health Age bring Apple’s app more in line with competitors like Whoop and Oura. Apple’s redesigned Health app is available now in the iOS 27.2 developer beta.
Starting with iOS 27.2, developers will be able to offer users a way to move their data and settings from an existing app to its designated replacement. Here are the details.
The new Health app still acts as a repository for all the data your Apple Watch and other Bluetooth-enabled fitness devices collect, but in a first for Apple, now actually tries to do something with that information. The current beta version of the app includes the new Insights tab that offers an overview of your daily metrics and trends across categories like sleep, fitness, and readiness (an Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 exclusive); and the Longevity tab, which collects several entirely new features.

Under Longevity, you can find things like your Health Age, a score that uses data collected by your Apple Watch to estimate how your body functions relative to its age, and movement assessments that can measure things like flexibility, strength and balance. Apple says written and video commentary from health experts will now also appear dynamically in the app in response to your data.
Other promised features are apparently coming in future beta releases, like personalization for summaries in the Insights tab, personalized recommendations and the ability to order labs from Quest. Combined, the new features go a long way to making the Health app and an Apple Watch more of a direct competitor to Oura, Whoop and Google.
All three companies collect similar types of data to Apple, but use AI and their custom software to package it into unique scores, summaries and recommendations.
Getting the most out of the Health app requires an Apple Watch or another fitness device that integrates with it. While the Health app is being tested in the iOS 27.2 beta, it won’t be part of the iOS 27.2 release.
It will instead launch later this year. Related Roundups: iOS 27, iPadOS 27 Related Forum: iOS 27 This article, " Hands-On With the Redesigned Health App in the iOS 27.2 Beta " first appeared on com Discuss this article in our forums.
