The new laptops include free 12 months of AI Pro, but the built-in features are separate from that perk. That means those headline AI features should keep working after the free year ends. Google is putting AI front and center with its first wave of Googlebooks, from Magic Pointer, which turns the humble cursor into a Gemini tool, to Rambler, which cleans up your rambling voice notes.

There’s just one potential catch: every Googlebook also comes with a free year of Google AI Pro, which raises an obvious question about what happens to those headline AI features once the freebie runs out. Thankfully, Google has now confirmed that some of the best ones aren’t going anywhere. Speaking on the Android Faithful podcast, Alexander Kuscher, Google’s Senior Director of Product for Laptops and Tablets, clarified what owners can expect once that 12-month Google AI Pro benefit expires.
