The original iPod turns 25 today and Apple decided to celebrate the milestone with a fun easter egg on the Apple Music website. Going to music.apple.com/us/ipod will reveal a fully functional digital version of the first-gen music player complete with the iconic scroll wheel and stacked with a big selection of 90-second sample songs from the era. Itโs a fun way to experience one of the most iconic Apple devices ever.

Time to dust off the click wheel. Big Tech Apple Apple Music has a fun Easter egg for the iPod’s 25th anniversary Time to dust off the click wheel.
Today is the 25th anniversary of Apple unveiling the first iPod. And as discovered by Kian on X, the companyโs website now has a fun new iPod easter egg.
Apple Music has a 404 page easter egg on the web: a functional iPod that appears when you load a page that does not exist, such as music.apple.com/. "Page Not Found," says Apple.
The MP3 player that everyone coveted famously promised to give you 1,000 songs in your pocket, and Apple is reminding us of what a feat that was with a cute anniversary Easter egg. If you attempt to load a broken page on the Apple Music website (try this one for size) you’ll be met with a fully interactive virtual version of the OG iPod.
Appleโs website has fun new easter egg: a fully interactive iPod. IPhone Duo launch day: Lines form at Apple Stores, walk-in availability limited Chance Miller Oct 23 2026.
"Give this a spin instead." Apple is clever with this. If you navigate to music.apple.com/ipod instead, the page says "Looking for something?" instead of "Page Not Found." The easter egg is only visible in a web browser, so you cannot see it in the Apple Music app.
Beneath the standard "page not found" message are the words "give this a spin instead," and if you know your way around an iPod you can navigate a library of 1,029 playable songs. The click wheel and general controls are all interactive, if forgivably a bit buggy in my experience.
To avoid being redirected to the Apple Music app, hold down the Command key when clicking on the link on a Mac, or press and hold on the link and tap "Open" on iOS. You can navigate the first-generation iPod using the click wheel and listen to 90-second previews of select songs from artists such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Coldplay, Daft Punk, Drake, Dr.
I advise trying this on your phone or tablet, so you can use the touch screen to make it feel even more nostalgically iPod-y. (I also had issues getting it to work at all on the desktop.) Apple The interface is exactly as you remember it, with sections for Playlists, Artists, Songs and Settings.
Dre, Eminem, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Panic! At The Disco, U2, and more.
Much of the included music is all delightfully early 2000s-coded, featuring artists like Baha Men, blink-182 and Eminem.
