In a report released today, TrendForce says that with strong demand for the iPhone Duo out of the gate, Apple is poised to capture nearly 30% of the global foldable smartphone market by 2027. Here are the details. IPhone Duo could capture nearly 30% of foldable market in 2027, per report.
Apple announces all-new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display, its first touchscreen Mac Zac Hall Oct 28 2026.
If you’re eager to change your screen time habits โ like staying off Instagram or reading more books โ the iPhone Duo may offer a solution. It’s the first iPhone with two screens, and there’s a trick that you can use to make it consistently open a specific app whenever you unfold it and look at the bigger display.
App developers will soon have more incentives to develop well-adapted foldable apps. Google is done asking nicely for foldable app optimization.
In the Shortcuts app, there’s a new iPhone Duo trigger called "Opened or Closed" that runs an automated action when the device is unfolded or folded. One of the best uses for it, I’ve found, is launching a specific app the moment you open your Duo โ so that unfolding the phone takes you straight into the app experience you’re expecting, and nothing else distracts.
While specific criteria for Play Store visibility will be announced later this year, it remains unclear whether non-compliant apps will face active search penalties or simply miss out on promotional incentives. The quality push comes alongside updated developer tools, including Compose adaptive skill and platform updates, that make it even easier for apps to adapt across foldables, laptops, and other form factors.
I’ve always been keen to. It makes flipping the phone open feel like opening a book to where you left off.
Android foldables have existed for almost a decade, but even Google admits that Android apps still havenโt optimized well enough for them. Google is even hopeful that Appleโs iPhone Duo could expand the foldable audience enough to encourage better app experiences across both iOS and Android, and we already see a glimpse of that with iPhone Duoโs app support on launch day.
But you can substitute any app you like. The following steps show you how it’s done.
Google is done waiting for developers to pick up the slack voluntarily, and it is preparing to take a more proactive approach towards better foldable apps on Android. Starting next year, the Google Play Store will evaluate how apps and games run on foldables, giving well-adapted apps increased visibility and prominent placement in the store.
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone Duo. On the "All Shortcuts" screen, tap the plus ( +) button in the bottom-right corner.
On the "What do you want your shortcut to do?" screen, tap Edit in the top-right corner. Tap the Search field at the bottom of the editor, type "Automation," then under the "Display" section, tap Opened or Closed ("When my iPhone is opened").
Select Opened as the trigger in the editor screen, then search for the Open App action. Tap the App placeholder in the "Open App" action, then choose the app you want to launch.
In this example, we’ll choose Kindle. Now leave the Shortcuts app โ the automation saves automatically and is active right away.
