Europe’s Sentinel-3C satellite has returned breathtaking images of Earth just two weeks after launch, revealing the snowy Alps, frozen Arctic islands, and brilliant turquoise Caribbean waters. Its first measurements also show promising results for tracking rising seas, melting ice sheets, and other changes reshaping our planet. Europe’s new Sentinel-3C satellite just sent back spectacular images of Earth.
Europe’s new Sentinel-3C satellite just sent back spectacular images of Earth Science News from research organizations Europe’s new Sentinel-3C satellite just sent back spectacular images of Earth Just two weeks after launch, Europe’s Sentinel-3C satellite is revealing stunning views of Earth while preparing to track the dramatic changes transforming our planet. By observing these components of the Earth system, the mission provides essential information for monitoring and understanding large-scale environmental processes and dynamics. Its near-real-time data also support ocean and weather forecasting.
But the satellite is doing much more than taking beautiful pictures. Its instruments have also begun measuring ocean heights and the elevation of Greenland’s massive ice sheet, providing an early demonstration of technology designed to monitor Earth’s changing climate. The first images and measurements come from two of Sentinel-3C’s key instruments.
Both are performing well in initial tests, bringing the satellite closer to its mission of tracking environmental changes across the planet.
